What You Leave Out by Lisa Goesling

What You Leave Out is almost done.

Etching into these boards is such a meditative process for me that it is easy to get lost in the mark making. However every line has to make sense, and the black background is a crucial part of the ‘story’. Each of the glowing orange lines is given movement because of what is left out. The orange shape in the center, (part of a Dahlia flower), has more mass because it is filled in with lines and color. That section is part of a hierarchy of importance I give to each element.
